We've Been There!

Travel Canada by rail with the same people who researched and wrote the Canadian bestseller the CANADIAN RAIL TRAVEL GUIDE now in its third printing.

Rail Travel Tours is thrilled to share our knowledge of rail travel in Canada and offer guided and independent packages with an emphasis (among other forms of travel) on rail transportation so you can sit back and let Canada come to you. Experience what your neighbors have been talking about and leave the rest to us. Our tours come from considerable research on the route our tours travel and the communities that we visit along the way to ensure you have a memorable experience during your trip and memories for years to come.

Building upon past successes, our travel options have been created with an emphasis on travelling in a worry free environment, for active mature adults and seniors so they can enjoy hands on experiences, socialize with other travelers and learn about visiting different communities and learning about their culture and heritage. We get off the trains to learn about an area's culture and history and proudly state “Others may sell you a seat; we provide an experience!” Of course you don’t have to take our word for it here is what some of our clients have said:

“In a word- remarkable – all the details you looked after from the hotels we stayed at to the information package you sent and notes along the way all added to the trip Across Canada. Everything was top notch” - Peter & Elizabeth Benvenutti

"Exceeded our expectations! We will book on another tour sometime in the future." - John Galilee

"Well planned tour...a true holiday adventure." - Nancy Hunter

"Have more - save me a space!" - M Gauthier

"Great Canadian Trip! Everyone should try it! Go see for yourself!" - Shirley Crossley

Payments are non-refundable, and recommend that guests purchase optional cancellation insurance available from RTT at time of initial booking. Verbal authorization of your credit card confirms your reservation.

Rail Travel Tours origins go back to when the owner Daryl Adair, from his youngest days, can remember watching with fascination the passenger and freight trains that passed, on the opposite side of the lake, of his family’s summer residence at Lac Lu Ontario. His grandmother told him how his grandfather worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway and was on the committee that chose the lake as a destination for family’s who worked for the railway. He took first train trips with his grandmother and great uncle at his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada on the Prairie Dog Central steam excursion. Also at a young age his Grandmother, (along with Daryl’s mother) took him on a trip from Vancouver to Winnipeg on The Canadian and he was forever hooked on rail travel and travel in general.

Getting a little older and after exploring Western Canada by himself he planned and executed a rail journey around the world in 1997-1998 on the rail services of Canada, England, Northern and Eastern Europe, The Trans-Siberian Express and China Rail which reaffirmed his belief that you “should see your own backyard, before you see the world.”

Daryl holds a diploma in Tourism and has contributed articles to the Canadian Tourism Commission’s TOURISM publication, CN Lines, Branchline, Canadian Rail, and other publications and websites, as well as, was the editor of the Winnipeg Railway Museum’s heritage newsletter “The Milepost” for five years. It was at this time he started organizing unique rail excursions for museum members and the general public with an emphasis on original experiences.

Using his passions with rail travel and the Canadian tourism industry he authored the Guide to Canada’s Railway Heritage, Museums, Excursions and Attractions. The launch of this book was followed by an extensive research period of the mile-by-mile highlights of all the rail passenger routes in Canada for his second book the Canadian Railway Travel Guide. Wanting to share this knowledge of all the Canadian rail passenger routes for the benefit of potential travelers he created Rail Travel Tours to the delight of our customers looking for excellent and original packages with the customer in mind to enjoy Canada by rail.

Today, from Daryl's home in Winnipeg as the owner/operator of Rail Travel Tours, he and representatives of the company arrange and manage Canadian rail travel packages with accommodations and sightseeing activities for others to enjoy Canada with the same passion for rail travel many of us share. In his spare time, Daryl volunteers on committees that promote Winnipeg and Manitoba and cheers on the Winnipeg Blue Bomber football club of the Canadian Football League in addition to spending time with his wife Theresa and their children at the family cottage at Lac Lu still watching trains go by the lake with the same love of travel from his youth.
