Round trip from Toronto to Prince Rupert - 15 days - 14 nights group tour

The only tour available (that we know of) round trip from Toronto featuring BOTH the scenic rail journey’s aboard VIA Rail' s CANADIAN through Northern Ontario, scenic prairie landscapes of Manitoba and Saskatchewan and the Rockies of Alberta and (possibly the most scenic mountain rail journey in Canada) the JASPER –PRINCE RUPERT, BC train.  Journey round trip by rail from Toronto across the Canadian Shield and Prairies past the Canadian Rocky and Coastal mountains, in daylight, to Northern BC and shoreline of the Pacific Ocean. There will be dome car(s) on all the trains the group will travel on.  Overnight in hotels and enjoy Jasper, Prince Rupert and Prince George as part of this deluxe tour.  Visit attractions such as the Wildlife Museum in Jasper to the North Pacific Cannery National Historic Site and other heritage experiences. Travel past the site of the last spike on the Grand Trunk Pacific and learn about this railway from the past (now part of CN) and its President Charles Melville Hayes who envisioned this route.  The tour price also includes all admissions at attractions and tours, train travel in Sleeping Car class, hotels, ALL meals on the trains and more for an unbelievable Canadian rail journey.

DAY 1 - TUESDAY JUNE 05, 2018

Starting from Toronto’s downtown Union Station, for the scheduled evening departure, you will board VIA’s westbound train The Canadian in Touring - sleeping car class. Once onboard enjoy a Bon Voyage reception before heading to your sleeping car accommodation to find your bed prepared for the evening to enjoy the night on the train.

Today you will continue to travel west in the province of Ontario and enjoy breakfast lunch & dinner (included) on the train. Travel through the scenic region of Northern Ontario featuring many lakes and rivers with isolated communities and fishing camps.  Move around and take in the events and views from the trains lounge, activity and dome cars and again enjoy the night on the train.

This morning the train arrives at the Province of Manitoba for an extended stop at the journey’s Mid-way point the City of Winnipeg. Here you will have time to tour the volunteer operated Winnipeg Railway Museum located right inside the station.  This large museum features the first steam locomotive on the Canadian Prairies called “The Countess of Dufferin” and numerous other displays related to the regions rail heritage.  Departing Winnipeg the train travels through western Manitoba and into the Province of Saskatchewan. See a grand prairie sunset over dinner before retiring for the night.

DAY 4 -FRIDAY JUNE 08, 2018
This morning travel through the Province of Alberta and stretch your legs on the platform in the Provincial Capital of Edmonton - where a Panorama Dome Car will be added to our train.  Breakfast and Brunch will be enjoyed on the train. Outside the train today you can view the Alberta foothills before they grow into the majestic Canadian Rockies in daylight. Arrival in Jasper, AB and overnight at our hotel that features great mountain views here in the heart of the Canadian Rockies

A full day in the mountains by bus touring the spectacular vistas of the Icefields Parkway all the way to the Columbia Icefield Interpretive Centre. Once here those on the tour will get up close and even walk on the glacier as part of the tour on a Icefield Explorer vehicle.  After a full day in the Rockies the group will return to and again overnight in Jasper.

DAY 6 - SUNDAY JUNE 10, 2018
Sleep in or take some time to do some shopping here in Jasper before our mid day boarding and departure of  VIA RAIL’s Jasper- Prince George train for Day 1 of this (daylight only) trip viewing the Canadian Rockies of Alberta and British Columbia. The Panorama Dome car, featured on this train for our group, is one of the best rail passenger cars in Canada for viewing the area’s scenery.  The train ALSO has a Park Car observation car with a wrap around lounge area at the trains end and an upper dome area with 360 degree views and lounge areas in the lower part of the car for viewing of the countryside the train travels through in great comfort.  Our guide will keep you informed of when to have your camera ready for that memorable photograph.  There will be lunch and dinner on the train (served at your seat in the Panorama Car) for those on the tour and over night at the our hotel in Prince George at the end of the day. 

DAY 7 - MONDAY JUNE 11, 2018
Awake this morning to transfer to the Prince George station and board VIA’ RAILS Prince George- Prince Rupert train for Day 2 to enjoy day 2 of this (daylight only) train. Rail Travel Tours guests  will enjoy breakfast lunch and dinner on the train.  Outside the dome car’s windows view B.C’s Coastal Mountains and the amazing Skeena River that the tracks travel alongside (watch for seals and otters in the river) for possibly the most scenic views in Canada from a passenger train.  The vegetation gets more lush and the river wider before we see the Pacific as we arrive in Prince Rupert BC on the Pacific Coast and transfer to the hotel included in the tour.

DAY 8 - TUESDAY JUNE 12, 2018
The following full day on the West Coast will be spent enjoying local history; First Nation’s culture and wildlife of Prince Rupert and include a guided tour of the preserved National Historic Site - The North Pacific (former salmon) Cannery and Fishing Village in nearby Port Edward. In Prince Rupert itself we will visit the Museum of Northern BC to learn about the Haida people and history of the area.  We will also enjoy the Prince Rupert Port Interpretive Centre followed by free time to explore the shops and shoreline of this scenic community in what is called the COWS BAY area and dome other special experiences here. Those on the tour will also enjoy a special dinner at a great location overlooking the Pacific Ocean and after again overnight at our Prince Rupert Hotel (that even has a outdoor hot tub overlooking the Pacific Ocean!).

This morning transfer to the PR train station to board the Panorama Car again for VIA Rail’S Prince Rupert- Prince George train for Day 3 of this scenic rail journey for the group to experience the Eastward journey on this (daylight only) train. Rail Travel Tours guests will enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner on the train. Outside the trains windows view B.C’s Coastal Mountains and the amazing Skeena River. Photograph the Hudson Bay Mountain and Kathleen Glacier. After again enjoying the awesome scenery of Northern BC overnight at our Prince George hotel.

DAY 10 -THURSDAY JUNE 14, 2018
Awake and transfer to the Prince George station and board the train to enjoyDay 4 of this (daylight only) trip viewing the ranch country of Northern BC, we enjoy both breakfast and lunch on the train, and the route will pass – Mount Robson - the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies before returning to Jasper Alberta to again overnight here.

DAY – 11 -FRIDAY JUNE 15, 2018
Enjoyed by the group in the morning will be a guided walking tour of the Maligne Canyon followed by  the afternoon experiencing the picturesque scenic Spirit Island Boat Cruise on Maligne Lake . Overnight at our Jasper Hotel – but before you head to bed sit in the rooftop hot tub as the sun sets behind the Canadian Rockies.  

DAY 12- SATURDAY JUNE 16, 2018
Today we start the day with a visit to the Jasper & Yellowhead museum. Then to provide more memories of the Canadian Mountains, we travel the Jasper Tramway to the top of Whistlers Mountain for some unbelievable vistas of the Canadian Rockies and lunch here. Returning to town for some last minute souvenir shopping along Connaught Avenue before boarding the scheduled eastbound Canadian to again view the Rockies in daylight, as well as enjoy dinner onboard the train and spend the night on the train.

DAY 13 -SUNDAY JUNE 17, 2018
Awake to view the province of Saskatchewan’s and the prairies of Manitoba. Stretch your legs to view Winnipeg’s Union Station and travel from the prairies to the rugged Canadian Shield while enjoying Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and later that night the train quietly crosses the border back into Ontario.

DAY 14- MONDAY JUNE 18, 2018
Today you will continue to travel east in the province of Ontario and enjoy breakfast lunch & dinner (included) on the train. Travel through the scenic region of Northern Ontario featuring many lakes and rivers with isolated communities and fishing camps.  Enjoy the trains lounge, activity and dome cars and again enjoy the night on the train.

DAY 15- TUESDAY JUNE 19, 2018
Today will be your last day on the train and this morning you will arrive in downtown Toronto to end one of the most scenic Canadian rail journeys you will probably ever take part in.
