Rail Travel Tours can take you to view the fantastic scenery and the fall colours of the rugged and picturesque region of Western Manitoba and Eastern Saskatchewan on a tour offered no where else. Travel on VIA's CANADIAN, comfortably past the prairie valleys and rolling hills while enjoying the views from the train's dome car. The train actually travels through part of the Qu'Appelle Valley where the Qu'Appelle River empties into the Assiniboine River for some great views only seen from the train  After the first day on the train arrive in the community that is referred to as Saskatchewan’s “Smallest City” of Melville, to overnight here for 1 night and then the next 2 nights in Yorkton, SK.  Enjoy the fall colours of the Qu’Appelle Valley on 2 separate days by motorcoach, and attractions in the communities of Fort Qu’Appelle, Esterhazy and more before our planned return trip from Melville to Winnipeg by rail after a memorable tour that combines some great scenery and rich history.

Morning meet and greet at Winnipeg's Union Station and tour of the Winnipeg Railway Museum before departing on VIA's westbound CANADIAN.  A short time after departing Winnipeg stop and welcome aboard further guests from Portage la Prairie.  Travel through Western Manitoba and Eastern Saskatchewan enjoying the views of the prairies fall harvest and the untouched scenery near Firdale that was once the shoreline of the glacial lake Agassiz.  Get your camera ready for the 35 mile stretch where the tracks travel past the winding Assiniboine Valley, part of the Qu’Appelle Valley system, and the great views from the impressive Uno Trestle.  Enjoy dinner on the train before arriving in Melville and overnight here.

The following morning enjoy breakfast at the hotel and the group will enjoy a full day tour by bus of the fall colours of the western portion of the Qu’Appelle Valley.  While enjoying the views of the fall colours the group will also enjoy a planned  visit to the Saskatchewan Fish Culture Station that is responsible for stocking all the lakes in the province with a variety of species and their staff will guide us through the entire facility located on the side of the valley.  There will also be a visit to the historic community of Fort Qu’Appelle and a visit to the Sacred Heart Church in Lebret located along the shore of Mission Lake.  After enjoying the scenery of the valley the group will return Melville to visit the City Hall & Opera House and free time before you overnight in Yorkton.  

Start the day with breakfast and a visit to the enjoy the large Melville Heritage Museum before traveling to the eastern part of the province. Our bus then travels to Esterhazy Saskatchewan where we have reservations made at the town golf course that overlooks the first tee on the edge of a ravine and Kapasvor Creek. Then after lunch, with retired miners, they group will tour the Potash Interpretive Centre and  also tour the Heritage Flour Mill here in Esterhazy Saskatchewan before viewing the National Historic Site Kapasvar Church where a little piece of Hungary has been transplanted to the Canadian prairies. We then travel thought the rarely seen eastern area of the QuAppelle Valley past the community of Cowessess and Crooked Lake Provincial Park to enjoy the fall colours of this area  This evening there will be a special last night of the tour supper included at one of Melville’s most popular restaurants as this will be the final night in Yorkton, Saskatchewan but get your rest as there will be more touring tomorrow.  

Again awake to enjoy breakfast and transfer back to Melville.  After saying goodbye to the friendly folks and hospitality of Melville we will return to the rails and board the eastbound CANADIAN to enjoy the views from the dome car and dinner on the train before returning back to Manitoba and Portage La Prairie or Winnipeg refreshed and rejuvenated.
