CANADA DAY WEEKEND RAIL TOUR - June 30 to July 3, 2019


ROUNDTRIP from either Winnipeg or Portage La Prairie, Manitoba 4 days and 3 nights tour to celebrate and experience Canada`s heritage.


Rail Travel Tours invites you to join us for the an extended Canada Day weekend rail tour (fittingly as railways were so instrumental with the formation of Canada) with planned day trips by train and bus, hotels, meals, visit to attractions and more. This roundtrip circle rail tour includes travel on VIA Rail's WINNIPEG TO CHURCHILL Train between Winnipeg, Manitoba to Canora, Saskatchewan scheduled during daylight (on the scenic route that features travel past Dauphin and Grandview and headwaters of the Assiniboine River) and transfer to nearby Yorkton  and check into our hotel. The next couple of days those on the tour will learn firsthand about the heritage of the Canadian Prairies by visiting attractions such as the National Doukhobor Heritage Village, and the Canora Station House Museum. The tour also includes day transfers by motorcoach to see the Qu'Appelle valley and visit the Saskatchewan Fish Culture Station, Sacred Heart church in Lebret SK, and the Parks Canada Motherwell Homestead heritage farm during their Canada Day events. Guests will also enjoy a 3 night stay in Yorkton, SK (at a hotel that includes a full breakast each morning a pool and hot tub!) Melvile Heritage City Hall & Opera House meals and more before departing Melville on VIA Rails`s Canadian travelling eastbound back to Winnipeg by train for the end this tour offered no where else. 

DAY 1 –SUNDAY JUNE 30, 2019
Morning meet and greet at Winnipeg's Union Station and tour of the Winnipeg Railway Museum and enjoy lunch here  before boarding and travelling on VIA Rail's WINNIPEG TO CHURCHILL TRAIN to enjoy the scenery through the windows from our seats in the coach.  A short time after departing Winnipeg at mid –day possibly welcome aboard further guests boarding at Portage la Prairie.  From here the route of this train travels North west through the prairies around Riding Mountain National Park and past places like Dauphin and Grandview.  Dinner on the train is included and after we arrive in Canora we will transfer by motorcoach to our Yorkton hotel and overnight here.

DAY 2 – MONDAY JULY 1, 2019
The following morning enjoy breakfast at the hotel before boarding our chartered coach to take us to Qu'Àppelle Valley on Canada day to tour the Saskatchewan Fish Culture Station and grand Sacred Heart Curch in Lebret.  After lunch here we will transfer to the nearby PARKS CANADA Motherwell Farm National Historic Site to tour this historic home (owned by early CDN agricultural Minster W. R. Motherwell) and take in the Canada Day events they have planned for the site on this operating heritage farm. 
After our visit here we will transfer back to Yorkton followed by free time to explore Yorkton this evening.  Tonight there will be free time to possibly visit the nearby Painted Hand Casino or to enjoy the Canada Day fireworks.  Overnight Yorkton


This morning we will enjoy breakfast at our hotel before visiting St Mary`s Church in Yorkton with its distinct painted ceiling.  Following this we will travel to Kamsack for lunch followed by a visit to their Powerhouse Museum.  This will then be followed by a visit to the National Doukhobor Heritage Village in Veregrin, SK for a guided tour of this heritage village located here.  Next we will travel to Canora SK (named after the first two letters of the Canadian Northern Railway) and Stationhouse Museum..  The afternoon will include visits to ride a privately owned narrow gauge train as well as the town’s Ukrainian Museum and Canada's only Toy & Autograph Museum followed by some free time to explore the town and have dinner at a popular Chinese restaurant here in Canora.  After dinner we will transfer to our hotel in Yorkton to possibly enjoy the pool and again overnight here.

This morning breakfast will be enjoyed at our hotel before we transfer by bus south the short distance to Melville. Once here we will visit their still working heritage City Hall with council chambers and upper floor opera house.  This will be followed by a visit to the Melville Heritage Museum with its well laid out themed display rooms.  We plan to enjoy some light lunch here before transferring to the Melville train station to await and climb aboard the train (that started in Vancouver) that will take us back to Winnipeg.  The route back will again feature some scenic views including the Qu`Appelle and Assiniboine River Valleys and the opportunity to enjoy dinner on the train before the scheduled evening return to Winnipeg's Union Station.
